It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that this year’s Senior Showcase is canceled. I assure you this decision did not come easy. We needed a minimum of 45 students to return their applications in by a very generous deadline. We only received 21 completed ones. Everything starts with numbers… the number of kids determine the choreography, the clothiers, the scenes, etc… we just didn’t have the numbers in time.

Senior Showcase Cancelled
An annual tradition for Rio seniors and PTSA’s biggest fundraiser has been cancelled due to low sign-ups for the event and no parent volunteers. Rio PTSA has had to adjust their budget to accommodate the loss of $20,000 and Rio seniors will now miss out on a fun, reinvented event celebrating their last year of high school.

Other Rio traditions/events in danger of disappearing without student, parent and staff support:
Class of 2020 Safe & Sober Grad Night
(Underclassmen committee members still needed or it will end with Class of 2019)
Every 15 Minutes
(This dramatic drinking and distracted driving event was funded by Senior Showcase)
Rio Duck Derby
(This fun, whole school event, in need of a chair, that has made over $15,000 the last two years will end up being PTSA’s only fundraiser this year)

If you’d like to help save any of these events please email Kelli Wheeler at or come to the next
